Fuel For the Soul… yeah, right.

August 9, 2009

Protesters gathered once again outside Fuel Restaurant to express rage against the horrific act of force feeding this Saturday.

How does Fuel get away with their slogan: Fuel from the earth. Fuel for the soul…???

Firstly, the foie gras they are serving is not “from the earth”, but from suffering animals who are force-fed daily with long steel pipes until they can barely walk or breathe. The birds are kept in such tight confinement that they can not escape from this feeding.

“Ducks can die when the metal feeding tube punctures their necks, from ailments related to liver failure, or when force-feeding overfills them to the point of suffocation. Necropsies performed on foie gras birds have shown them to suffer from grossly enlarged livers, lacerated tracheas and esophagi, pneumonia, throats and gullets severely impacted with undigested corn, massive internal bacterial and fungal growth and sore feet from bumblefoot – all consequences of the production method for which veterinary care is not profitable.”

Fuel claims to offer superb regional cuisine from local farmers, but there are no foie gras farms in BC. This pate of pain is trekked in from Quebec.

Secondly: soul fuel comes from compassion, NOT exploitation.

Fuel Restaurant is serving Poison for the soul.

Now… I’ve had my heart pulverized before, but I can still feel the pain that these ducks experience daily. So my question is:  how do we force-feed some empathy back into the hearts of these culinary zombies who keep this practice alive?

You are so right. They have no soul. Keep up the good fight, and shut those bastards down.

as more and more people become aware of where the food on their plate actually comes from, they’ll see that this isn’t cool.

ps: we quasi-met at under the volcano – me and LJ were talking to glenn off to the side about filming him :)

After watching other videos on your sight, I want to become involved with your demonstrations somehow. I just moved to Vancouver. Could you point me in the right direction?
    Thank You

    Hi Paul,

Well it looks like we convinced Glenn to speak after all. He’s a good speaker, right?
